General Requirements: Work requires professional written and verbal communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Bilingual abilities in Spanish is preferred but not required. Certifications such as NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health), IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health), or OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) preferred.
Quality Requirements: Must have a general working knowledge of OSHA requirements, CPR certified. Must have 1-2 years safety experience.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand/walk up to 90% of the workday; sit to perform normal office duties for up to 90% of the workday, occasional bending, squatting, ascending ladders/stairways, and occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.
Essential Duties: Adheres to safety measures, confined space entry, permit writing, emergency response assistance, organizes supplies and equipment. The employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Follows all Safety policies and procedures, and immediately notifies supervisor or other manager if Safety protocols cannot be met. Wears all Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) per company policies or contractor requirements. Reports all incidents and accidents regardless of severity to supervisor immediately. Understands that he/she has stop-work authority if work cannot or is not being done safely. Please remember that all incidents and accidents can be prevented with proper job planning and hazard recognition (JSA).
2. Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential safety risks in the workplace (e.g., unsafe equipment, hazardous materials, unsafe work practices).
3. Monitor and assess safety performance across the workplace and recommend improvements.
4. Ensure that the company complies with local, regional, and international safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ISO standards).
5. Stay updated on new health, safety, and environmental laws or regulations and ensure their implementation in workplace practices.
6. Investigate workplace accidents and near-miss incidents, document findings, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
7. Prepare detailed safety reports and maintain incident logs as required by safety regulations.
8. Assist in the development and delivery of safety training programs for employees, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency response procedures, and safe work practices.
9. Ensure that all employees are aware of safety protocols and know how to report hazards.
10. Monitor environmental conditions in the workplace, such as air quality, noise levels, and the handling of hazardous substances.
11. Support the implementation of environmentally sustainable practices to reduce waste, pollution, and other environmental risks.
12. Assist in developing emergency response plans (e.g., fire drills, evacuation procedures, first aid protocols).
13. Ensure that emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, first-aid kits) is maintained and easily accessible.
14. Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, training sessions, and compliance audits.
