Smith Industries is looking for a dependable and organized Tool Room Attendant to help keep our tools and equipment accurately tracked, properly maintained, and ready for use. This role is responsible for issuing and receiving tools, maintaining inventory, inspecting equipment, and keeping the tool room safe and organized. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Issue tools and equipment to employees and contractors and assist employees in selecting the appropriate tools for each task

  • Track tool check-outs and returns using logs, software, or databases and follow up on outstanding items

  • Maintain accurate inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies and perform routine inventory checks and audits

  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate the ordering or replenishment of tools and supplies as needed

  • Inspect tools before and after use for damage, wear, or defects

  • Perform basic tool maintenance, including cleaning, sharpening, and lubricating, and coordinate repairs or replacements when necessary

  • Ensure applicable tools are properly calibrated and meet company safety and quality requirements

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly labeled tool room with tools stored in their designated locations

  • Monitor tool room access and enforce established check-out, sign-out, and security procedures

  • Assist with identifying and resolving missing or lost tool issues

  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to tool usage, inventory, maintenance, and missing items

  • Coordinate with supervisors, maintenance, and purchasing to ensure tools and equipment are available for scheduled work

  • Follow all company safety policies, wear required PPE, and immediately report hazards, defective equipment, and incidents

  • Exercise stop-work authority when work cannot be performed safely

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability and willingness to learn and follow API quality standards and company policies

  • Strong attention to detail, dependability, and commitment to maintaining accurate records

  • Ability to work effectively with employees, supervisors, maintenance, and purchasing

  • Previous experience in a tool room, warehouse, inventory, manufacturing, or industrial environment is preferred but not required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 90% of the workday

  • Ability to occasionally bend, squat, and climb ladders or stairs

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 40 pounds

  • Ability to accurately judge weights, distances, and heights
